Growing up in the 80s, my go-to tv shows were Street Cents, Marketplace, and On the Road Again. Yes, you guessed right - our family lived in the boonies and had OFC. Besides pining over Jonathan Torrens and marvelling at Wayne Rostad’s cross-Canada adventures, I spent most of my time reading books by the likes of Roald Dahl and Judy Blume and exploring the vastness of our forested oasis.
Today, I’m a slightly taller version of my childhood self. I’m obsessed with honesty in business, storytelling that stirs the heart (or makes you pee your pants in a good way) and taking great care of the natural world, so there are still forests to be explored long after I’m stardust again. My past life and work experience also includes milking Jersey cows in Australia, completing a Masters thesis on how local food systems contribute to and rely upon social capital, co-founding a print newspaper in the 21st century, and a short stint making and selling energy balls (yes, many jokes were made about my tasty balls).
I could share more tales from the Shannals of history, but for now I’ll leave you with this teaser: I live with two Star Wars characters, a small fruit, and a man who thought he had a two syllable name until I came along and broke the news that Luke is only one syllable. I think he’s still devastated, but he married me anyways.
